Obituary of Alvae

Alvae “Bud” Coon, age 81, of Huxley, Iowa passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022. A celebration of life visitation for Bud will be held Monday, August 1, 2022, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Ankeny Funeral Home followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m.

Bud was born on May 3, 1941 to Alvae and Madelia (Goings) Coon in Waterloo, Iowa. He was a proud veteran; during his time in the Army he spent time in Germany, and during his time in the Air Force he spent time in Vietnam. Bud married the love of his life, Janet Kent, in the late summer of 1964 in Hawkeye, Iowa; they were fortunate to have been together for 57 years and were blessed with two children, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bud enjoyed car racing, loved golf, and liked to fish. He was a great cook and friends and family loved his potato salad and delicious fried chicken. Bud was witty, smart, sarcastic, and had a great sense of humor. At the end of the day, he loved nothing more than spending time with his grandkids and great-grandkids.

Left behind to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet; children, Mike (Nancy) Coon of Kansas City and Susan (Rob) Short of Ankeny; grandkids, Amanda Van Dorn (Dustin Boots), Amanda (Justin) Campbell, Michael (Kim) Hubbard, David Van Dorn, Brittany Singleton, Melissa (Walter) Chavez, Christeen Coon (Dan Rotert), Malinda Sharp; great-grandkids, Jami Van Dorn, Kameron Holcomb, Jacoby Violett, David Alvae Sharp, Alayna Sharp, Carter Boots, Raúl Chavez, Reina Chavez, Jamien Hubbard, Jolene Holcomb, Arlo Hubbard, Lane Holcomb, Luca Hubbard; brother, Robert (Donna) Coon; and several nieces and nephews.
