- Christopher Blaise Beyhan, 66, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died of natural causes on Monday September 5th, 2010 near his home. He was the son of Samuel J. and Margaret White Beyhan. His surviving family includes daughters, Angela B. Thune of Mt. Pleasant, and Bridget B. Wells of Alexandria, VA; sons, Thomas C. Beyhan of Youngstown, OH, and Michael J. Beyhan, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Colton and Caden Thune; R. Parrish and Caroline Wells; uncle Lt. Col. William W. White, ret. of San Diego, CA; aunt Ann Beyhan Demartini of Tiburon, CA; nieces and nephews Christopher Blaise Beyhan and Paul, Matthew, Emily, Nora, Katherine, Claire and Samuel Johnson; five cousins and his beloved pets Poncho and Zach. Chris was preceded in death by his parents and sister Megan Beyhan Johnson. Chris loved his family, animals, music, American history and the ocean. He had a successful career in the restaurant business in Hilton Head, Miami and Atlanta, and he retired in recent years to Mt. Pleasant. - Martha Smith Barker, 75, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 12, 2010. Martha was born in Columbia to Lonnie Edward ("L.E.") Smith and Virginia Faulkner Smith. She grew up in Camden, was a graduate of Camden High School (1953) and Columbia School of Nursing. In 1960 she moved to Charleston, SC where she taught nursing and eventually directed the Licensed Practical Nursing program at the Medical University of South Carolina. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in nursing while still working full time, Martha then graduated from the University of South Carolina with her master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. She returned to her home town and began work with the SC Department of Mental Health in Columbia once again to teach. She also worked many weekends with patients at Charter Rivers Hospital also in Columbia. She retired in 1993 after over 32 years of service to the State of South Carolina. In her retirement, Martha was a gifted Sunday school teacher at Lake View Baptist Church in Camden. Martha is survived by her daughter, Michele deCalverhall Barker of Beaufort, SC; brother Charles H. Smith and his wife Connie of Caesar's Head and Columbia, SC; niece Charleston Laffin and her family of Lexington, SC; nephew Matt Smith of Charleston, SC; and her beloved Boykin Spaniel Charlie. - Mary Kathryn Bieshelt Hilton Head Island, SC.- Mary Kathryn Bieshelt, 87, of St. Andrews Commons, formerly of Columbiana, passed onto heaven at 2:00pm, Sunday, August 15, 2010 at her home, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Bieshelt was born December 4, 1922 in Iowa, a daughter of the late George and Helen Coleman. She graduated from Geneva College with a Bachelor's Degree in History, and had worked as a bookkeeper for her husband. After his death, she taught English at Lisbon David Anderson High School for many years and had served as treasurer at the Columbiana Methodist Church for 8 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Bieshelt, whom she married June 24, 1950; her son, Bruce Bieshelt; sister, Carol Piper; brothers, William Hall and Donald George Coleman; and her dear friend and companion of many years, Ruth Kauffman. She is survived by her nephew, Richard (Hoa) Piper of Largo, Florida; their daughter, Carolyn Piper of Tampa, FL; life long friends, Scott E. Kauffman of Raleigh, North Carolina; Nancy E. (David) Bowman of Pendleton, Oregon; their children, Corey (Jaime) Bowman and their son, Harper of Post Falls, ID, Zach Bowman of Cody, WY, the late Lacey Bowman; and her loving caregiver, Debra Ford Cox of Hilton Head. Her strength and courage during her prolonged illness were especially inspirational. During her life, Bette was a member of the Junior League, an ordained deacon of the Presbyterian Church, and a member of P.E.O. She also served on boards of the Red Cross, Head Start, and of other numerous organizations. - Michael Carl Brogan - JACKSONVILLE, FL - Michael Carl Brogan, 67, passed away September 7, 2010. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, he considered Savannah, Georgia his home, where he grew up and later returned after living in California and Washington for a number of years. He resided in Jacksonville since 1989. He retired after 40 years as a civilian employee of the United States Navy, after proudly serving his country during the Viet Nam War on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea. He will be remembered as a truly patriotic American, in addition to being a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Freda Brogan of Savannah. Michael is survived by a loving family that includes his wife, Joan; children, Sean Michael Brogan (Melissa), Jennifer Louise Perdue (Scott), John Michael Drake (Rachel); brother, John Brogan; sister, Sheila Boulineau (Gerald); aunt, Catherine Lawrence; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. - Mr. Henry E. Frost - SAVANNAH - Mr. Henry E. Frost 51, passed away September 7, 2010 at Memorial Health University Medical Center following a brief illness. Born November 8, 1958 at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Royce Frost, M.D. and Pauline "Polly" Butler Frost. Henry graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1976. He attended East Georgia College, University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University. He founded and operated "Under the Rainbow" Historic Inn along with his partner. A deeply spiritual man, Henry was a member of the Unity Church of Savannah. He was a warm compassionate man and a friend to all who knew him. He was a devoted passionate advocate for the entire gay community of Savannah and Georgia. He was a past chairman of First City Network, one of the original founders of Savannah Gay Pride and a long time member and supporter of Georgia Equality Inc. John was born December 22, 1970, in Waverly, New York, a son of Morris John Lewis, Sr. and Elizabeth Jane Corl Lewis of Summerville. He was a graduate of Summerville High School. He received his bachelors degree in business at Winthrop University where he was part of the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was a devoted father, loving husband, devout christian who battled Glioblastoma brain cancer for three years. He enjoyed wood working, sports, and helping others. He worked with Nucor Steel as a shipping clerk and was a member of Seacoast Church. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two sons, Jonah Lewis and Caden Lewis both of Summerville; sister, Andrea Nicole Reece (Bryan) of Summerville; father-in-law, Randy Bouchillon (Linda) of Goose Creek; mother-in-law, Vicki Lowry (Alan) of Rock Hill; grandparents, Helen L. - Laura Long Ayers DANIEL ISLAND - Laura Long Ayers, 77, wife of Jeddie C. Ayers, formerly of Lake City, S.C. passed away on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 in Charleston following a long illness. Laura was born on March 7, 1933 in Hemingway, S.C. a daughter of the late John Long and the late Inez Rogers Long. She and her husband resided in Scranton, S.C., where they raised their 3 children until 1995 when they moved to Ft Mill, S.C. and in July 2010 relocated to Daniel Island, S.C. Laura was employed by the former Wentworth Mfg Co of Lake City for 15 years. She later was able to release her creative energy in floral arrangements while working for Libby's Florist in Lake City. She was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church where she valued beyond all things her involvement in Church where she taught Kindergarten, Sunday School Classes and active with the MYF Group and was a member of the Church Choir. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Wilson Long, a sister in law, Mary Ann Long and two brothers in law, Robert F Young and Chesley Stephens. Surviving in addition to her husband of Daniel Island, S.C. includes 1 daug-hter Gail Ayers Lyons and her husband Gene of Plant City, FL: two sons, Michael W Ayers of Charleston, S.C. and Jeff Ayers of Daniel Island, S.C: 1 brother Thomas D Long and his wife Nancy of Effingham, S.C.: two sisters, Cora L. Stephens of Grovetown, GA. And Francis L Young of Bishopville, S.C.: 1 sister-in law Carolyn Lee of Florence, S.C.: three grandchildren, Jennifer Chamberlain, Amber Dorrell and Brittney Ayers and 4 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. In the 1940's, Mrs. Atkins helped organize many Baptist Young People Unions (later known as training unions) in the Lancaster community. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class at Greer High School. After graduating from Lander College in Greenwood, she taught Math in Piedmont, SC. Afterwards, she began working with the South Carolina Department of Social Services where she retired with thirty years of commendable service.Mildred was married to late Captain Henry Grady Adkins who served on the Anderson City Police Department for almost forty years. - Elizabeth (Betsy) McDavid Campbell, of Naples, Florida, died September 6, 2010. She was born on April 14, 1917 in Greenville, South Carolina. Betsy and her husband, Bob, lived in Gaffney, South Carolina for many years. Betsy is survived by her two daughters, Jane Campbell Hinton and Schuyler Campbell and four grandchildren, Schuyler Campbell, Robert Scholl, Anne Marie Reinhold and Vincent Scholl.Betsy spent her life helping others, especially children. Betsy believed in helping young people teach each other values, attitudes and skills that would enable each of them to contribute in their community as envisioned by our Creator. Betsy grew up in Greenville, South Carolina and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in 1938. That same year, she was married to Robert S. Campbell, Jr. Bob passed away in 2003.Betsy has received many awards for her years of service to various organizations. Betsy was an active leader in the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Gaffney, where she served in most available positions. She was the first president of the Friends of the Library in Gaffney. She was presented the Henry B. Richardson Award at York Place Episcopal Home for Children. From 1993 to 1995, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees at York Place. In 1998, Governor David Beasley presented her with the Order of the Palmetto. Limestone College presented Betsy with an Honorary Alumnus Award in 1990 and awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service in 1999. In December, 2000, Betsy received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities from Clemson University. Furman University presented Betsy with an Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree in April, 2002 in recognition of her tireless advocacy for disadvantaged children.For many years, Betsy worked one on one with developmentally impaired and emotionally disturbed children. She has supported many youth initiatives, including the Sprouting Wings Program at Clemson University and the South Carolina Botanical Gardens, helping children succeed through connecting with nature. She created the Campbell Young Leaders program to assist underserved children in achieving their potential.Through her devotion to children and her desire for teaching, she established the Betsy M. Campbell Learning Symposium for Teachers through Clemson University. - Laura Long Ayers DANIEL ISLAND - Laura Long Ayers, 77, wife of Jeddie C. Ayers, formerly of Lake City, S.C. passed away on Thursday, September 2nd, 2010 in Charleston following a long illness. Laura was born on March 7, 1933 in Hemingway, S.C. a daughter of the late John Long and the late Inez Rogers Long. She and her husband resided in Scranton, S.C., where they raised their 3 children until 1995 when they moved to Ft Mill, S.C. and in July 2010 relocated to Daniel Island, S.C. Laura was employed by the former Wentworth Mfg Co of Lake City for 15 years. She later was able to release her creative energy in floral arrangements while working for Libby's Florist in Lake City. She was a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church where she valued beyond all things her involvement in Church where she taught Kindergarten, Sunday School Classes and active with the MYF Group and was a member of the Church Choir. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Wilson Long, a sister in law, Mary Ann Long and two brothers in law, Robert F Young and Chesley Stephens. She was the daughter of the late John Marvin and Carrie Irene Gullege McManus. Mrs. Atkins was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lancaster, SC where she enjoyed serving many years in various capacities, which included Vacation Bible School Director, Women's Missionary Union President, choir member, and Sunday school teacher for 45 years. In the 1940's, Mrs. Atkins helped organize many Baptist Young People Unions (later known as training unions) in the Lancaster community. After graduating from Southern Seminary, she studied music at Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va.While living in Lexington, Mrs. Coleman was a very active member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, where she served as circle chairman and vice-president of the Women of the Church. She was also active in many civic organizations. She was a member of the Lexington Women's Club, where she served as president. She was a member of the Lexington Garden Club, also serving as president. She was a member of the Virginia Frontier DAR chapter, serving as their regent. She was a member of the "The Book Club" of Lexington, where she served as chairman. She served on the Stonewall Jackson Hospital board in Lexington. She was a member of the General William R. Terry United Daughters of the Confederacy of Bedford, Va. She was a life member of the Rockbridge County Historical Society as well as a life member of the Bedford Historical Society. While residing in South Carolina, she was a member of The Red Hat Society.Mrs. Coleman was a very talented musician, who loved playing the piano. She spent many hours volunteering to play for her church, in nursing homes and retirement homes. Even when she moved into a retirement community, she was known for sharing her talents with the residents of the assisted living and health care community. She was asked often to play for fashion shows or private parties. She always had a song in her heart and looked for the best in others. Many of the characteristics of the woman of Proverbs 31 describe her well, but the 26th verse surely brings Eloise to mind - "the teaching of kindness is on her tongue". Mrs. Coleman was a lovely, kind and giving lady and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.Mrs. Coleman is survived by her two daughters, Jane Coleman Balfour and her husband, Dan, of Richmond, Va., and Noell Coleman Kimball and her husband, Jack, of York, S.C. - BRENTWOOD, TENN. - Dr. Robert Barry Grove, husband of Patricia Huggin Grove, passed away September 5,2010.Barry was born to the late John Robert and Virginia Harris Grove in Rock Hill, S.C., on June 18, 1942.He was a committed Christian and a long time member of Brentwood Baptist Church. Barry graduated from N.C. State University in electrical engineering. He also attended medical school at The Medical College of South Carolina where he graduated second in his class. While a Major in the U.S. Army, he did his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Johns Hopkins University. He was board certified in Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Ultrasound and Nuclear Medicine. In 1975, he joined the faculty at Vanderbilt University as Assistant Professor of Radiology and became Director of Nuclear Medicine and Diagnostic Ultrasound at the Veterans Administration Medical Center before going into private practice.He and his wife started their own business in 1980 as independent owners affiliated with the Amway Corporation where they accomplished the Diamond level in 1995. Barry's success in his business allowed him to retire from medicine and devote more time to his family and doing the things he loved.He was a licensed amateur radio operator, a Lionel train collector and a certified radio-controlled jet pilot. He also loved to travel, study history, and was proud to be a member of the Confederate States of America.Barry was always able to interact with people from all different backgrounds. He learned to treat people kindly and with respect, believing that they would do the same in return. He knew the value of hard work and understood that hard work and adversity created character. He often said, "When you do something, it doesn't matter what it is, you've got to do the best you possibly can."His strong personality, character and love of life drew people to him. He stood on principles that he learned as a child - faith, freedom, and personal responsibility, and he pursued these principles with dogged persistence and passion throughout his life.In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter, Julie Martin and her husband, Eric of Franklin, Tenn., son, Randy Grove and his wife, Susan of Nashville, Tenn.; and sister, Susan Jones and her husband, Bill of Greensboro, N.C. He was the beloved "Big Daddy" to grandsons, Andrew Edward Martin, John William Martin, Matthew Robert Martin; granddaughter, Claudia Rebecca Grove; and grandson, Jackson Robert Grove. - David Roscoe Baker, 89, of Hilton Head Island, SC, formerly of Atlanta, GA, died Sunday, September 5, 2010. Dave's belief and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ were the eminent focus of his life. He was born in Melrose, MA, on January 21, 1921. He attended Wheaton College in Illinois until he enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1941. He served in World War II in the Pacific arena on islands from Guadalcanal to Guam. He received the Navy Citation and the Presidential Unit Citation for combat action on Guadalcanal, Rendova, New Georgia, and Guam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received during the invasion of Guam. In 1945, Dave married Mary E. Surgenor in Sea Island, GA. He is survived by his wife, Mary; two daughters, Mollie Harmon (John); Susan Wolfe (Paul); three sons, Sandy, Paul, and Robert (Agneta). He was predeceased by his daughter Flora and his great grandson Caleb. He also leaves 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Burial will be at 12:30 PM on Friday, September 10 at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday at the Hilton Head Presbyterian Church. - Martha Smith Barker, 75, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 12, 2010. Martha was born in Columbia to Lonnie Edward ("L.E.") Smith and Virginia Faulkner Smith. She grew up in Camden, was a graduate of Camden High School (1953) and Columbia School of Nursing. In 1960 she moved to Charleston, SC where she taught nursing and eventually directed the Licensed Practical Nursing program at the Medical University of South Carolina. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in nursing while still working full time, Martha then graduated from the University of South Carolina with her master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. She returned to her home town and began work with the SC Department of Mental Health in Columbia once again to teach. She also worked many weekends with patients at Charter Rivers Hospital also in Columbia. She retired in 1993 after over 32 years of service to the State of South Carolina. In her retirement, Martha was a gifted Sunday school teacher at Lake View Baptist Church in Camden. Martha is survived by her daughter, Michele deCalverhall Barker of Beaufort, SC; brother Charles H. Smith and his wife Connie of Caesar's Head and Columbia, SC; niece Charleston Laffin and her family of Lexington, SC; nephew Matt Smith of Charleston, SC; and her beloved Boykin Spaniel Charlie. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Lonnie Edward ("Bubba") Smith Jr. of the US Marine Corps (d.1960) and her ex-husband, Charles W. Barker Sr. (d.2009). A memorial service will be held for Martha on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Lake View Baptist Church, 1520 Mill Street, Camden. - Robert JosephAudet, Sr., M.D.Robert Joseph Audet, Sr., M.D., 86, passed away at home on Thursday, August 26th, in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. A private family service was held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. A reception for family and friends will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Dolphin Head Golf Club in Hilton Head Plantation with military honors at 2 p.m. Dr. Robert is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne Amlicke Audet, M.D., and his four. children, Robert J. Audet, Jr., M.D., Michelle J. Audet, Elise R. Audet and Charles H. Audet, II and his sister, Antoinette (Kiki) A. Perreault. Dr. Robert Audet was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. Audet, Sr., M.D. and Cora Lea Gauthier Audet of Waterbury and Fort Lauderdale, FL., his brother, Charles H. Audet, Jr. M.D and his sister Helen D. Audet. Dr. Audet was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on December 12, 1923. He attended L'Ecole de St. Anne in Waterbury, Loyola and College de Montreal in Canada. As a young man, he earned his pilot's license at Mt. Tobe before his driver's license. Dr. Audet graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, where he met his future wife, and received his doctorate at the University of Maryland School of Medicine & Surgery in Baltimore in 1946. A veteran of WWII, Dr. Audet served two years in the Navy as a physician. Based out of New London, CT, Newport, RI and Long Beach, CA, he served his country mainly in the Pacific on the USS Passumpsic. After the war, he completed a 3 year residency. Dr. Audet opened his office on 3 Second Ave. in Waterbury with privileges at St. Mary's Hospital, where his father, wife and brother also practiced medicine and performed surgery. Dr. Audet was a well respected physician, focusing not only on Obstetrics & Gynecology and surgery, but Family Practice. He was a Diplomat of the American Academy of Family Practice. A beloved doctor who made many house calls both night and day, Dr. Audet had a devoted and loyal following from both his patients and his long time administrative and nursing staff. Dr. Audet's sense of humor was enjoyed by all. He was an avid fisherman, with a love for fly fishing for trout on the Canadian waterways. He taught his children the art of fly fishing maintaining it was always an art and aesthetic experience. He belonged to the Waterbury Country Club, winning the Arnold Cup and Husband and Wife Tournament. Dr. Robert & Dr. Jeanne retired to Hilton Head Island in 1991, where he enjoyed painting, hooking rugs, fishing and playing golf, and winning tournaments with his friends, the "Characters" at Dolphin Head Golf Club. He and his wife were also among the first directors and participants of Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) the national, award-winning model clinic created by Dr. Jack McConnell. - Marian Phoebe "Dede" Taylor Bennett Beaufort, SC MARIAN PHOEBE "DEDE" TAYLOR BENNETT, 90, widow of Riley A. Bennett, Sr., died September 1, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Bennett was born on June 19, 1920, in Portsmouth, NH, a daughter of the late Cecil R. Taylor and Ruth E. Coney Taylor. She had resided in Beaufort since 1939 was a homemaker, and retired from the banking industry. She was a member of The Baptist Church of Beaufort since 1951. She is survived by a daughter, Marian B. - Mary Kathryn Bieshelt Hilton Head Island, SC.- Mary Kathryn Bieshelt, 87, of St. Andrews Commons, formerly of Columbiana, passed onto heaven at 2:00pm, Sunday, August 15, 2010 at her home, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Bieshelt was born December 4, 1922 in Iowa, a daughter of the late George and Helen Coleman. She graduated from Geneva College with a Bachelor's Degree in History, and had worked as a bookkeeper for her husband. After his death, she taught English at Lisbon David Anderson High School for many years and had served as treasurer at the Columbiana Methodist Church for 8 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Bieshelt, whom she married June 24, 1950; her son, Bruce Bieshelt; sister, Carol Piper; brothers, William Hall and Donald George Coleman; and her dear friend and companion of many years, Ruth Kauffman. She is survived by her nephew, Richard (Hoa) Piper of Largo, Florida; their daughter, Carolyn Piper of Tampa, FL; life long friends, Scott E. Kauffman of Raleigh, North Carolina; Nancy E. (David) Bowman of Pendleton, Oregon; their children, Corey (Jaime) Bowman and their son, Harper of Post Falls, ID, Zach Bowman of Cody, WY, the late Lacey Bowman; and her loving caregiver, Debra Ford Cox of Hilton Head. Katie lived her dream by living on Hilton Head, the island that she loved! We will all miss her dearly. - Herbert Steve Bishop Yemassee, SC Mr. Herbert Steve Bishop died Monday, September 06, 2010 at his residence in Yemassee after an extended illness. Born March 8, 1936 in St. Helena Island, SC, he was the son of the late Oscar Rudolph Bishop, Sr. and Ruth Steinmeyer Bishop. He was a graduate of Beaufort High School, attended Clemson University, served his country in the United States Army and was also a member of the National Guard. He was a member of the Ebenezer United Methodist Church and the Yemassee Planning Commission. - Roy Brookins Retired USMCBeaufort SC - Roy Brookins, 84, beloved husband of Vera Walden Brookins, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 16, 2010, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:30AM on Friday, August 20, 2010 at the Mt. Zion Congregational Church in Mitchell GA with the Rev. Al Kurtz officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Born in Washington County GA, he was the youngest of the late Smallie Lancaster and Lonnie Penn Brookins' five children. Roy proudly served his country by joining the US Marine Corps and served during WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars , receiving the following medals and citations: Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, Good Conduct Medal with 4 stars, American Campaign, Asiatic Theatre Campaign, National Defense with one star, China Service, WWII Victory Medal, Korea Service Medal with three stars, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, M1 Rifle Expert, and 1956, and 45-Caliber Pistol Expert. After retiring as GySgt, he opened Burton Septic Tank Service. Before he and his wife officially retired, they owned Brookins Mobile Home Park on Parris Island Gateway for 40 years. Roy was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish and especially enjoyed spending time at his "hunting lodge" in Edge Hill GA. Most importantly, he loved his family, friends, community and country. He was also preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Linda Brookins Lamb, three brothers and a sister. Roy's other survivors include his devoted son, Roy K. Brookins (Lucinda), and his daughter, Trinda Brookins Rabon; five grandchildren, David K. Brookins, Katie E. Brookins, Linda Rabon-Hardison, Santee Guy Rabon, and Angela Lamb Barrow (Shane) Edge Hill GA; four great-grandchildren, Blake Lamb, Lyn Barrow, Ayden Barrow and Malaki Hardison; two sisters-in-law, Maxie Walden Redfern, Gibson GA, and Helen Walden Jones, Macon GA; his favorite nieces and nephews, Sandra Niedens, Forsythe GA, Gwen Futch, Myrtle Beach SC, Judy R. - Christopher Blaise Beyhan, 66, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died of natural causes on Monday September 5th, 2010 near his home. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Monday, September 13th at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Beyhan was born in Brooklyn, NY and was raised in Baltimore, MD. He was the son of Samuel J. and Margaret White Beyhan. His surviving family includes daughters, Angela B. Thune of Mt. Pleasant, and Bridget B. Wells of Alexandria, VA; sons, Thomas C. Beyhan of Youngstown, OH, and Michael J. Beyhan, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Colton and Caden Thune; R. Parrish and Caroline Wells; uncle Lt. Col. William W. White, ret. of San Diego, CA; aunt Ann Beyhan Demartini of Tiburon, CA; nieces and nephews Christopher Blaise Beyhan and Paul, Matthew, Emily, Nora, Katherine, Claire and Samuel Johnson; five cousins and his beloved pets Poncho and Zach. Chris was preceded in death by his parents and sister Megan Beyhan Johnson. Chris loved his family, animals, music, American history and the ocean. He had a successful career in the restaurant business in Hilton Head, Miami and Atlanta, and he retired in recent years to Mt. Pleasant. - Harry B. Rambo, 85, of Murrells Inlet, S.C., died at his home on September 8th, 2010. Born April 13, 1925 in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, He attended Purdue University, North Carolina State and graduated from Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. Most of his schooling took place as part of the ROTC program in WWII. He was very proud of the fact that his diploma was presented by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. Harry worked at Alleghany Energy for 42 years, ending his career as the head of the rate department located in Hagerstown, Md. He was also a charter member of the Leitersburg Lions Club and was active in the organization for many years. Harry was an avid reader and a member of the Shepherd of the Sea Lutheran Church in Garden City. He is survived by Ann G. Rambo, his wife of 62 years; sister, Helen King and her husband, Steven, and family of N. Chatham, Mass.; daughter, Elizabeth Temple and her husband, David, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and daughter, Nancy Bachtell and her husband, Richard, of Hagerstown, Md. He is also survived by one grandson, Christopher, his wife, Kristi; and his two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cody of Hagerstown, Md. - Joan "JoAnne" Faye Goodman Halberg, of Murrells Inlet, died September 8, 2010 in Charleston. Born October 30, 1929 in Freeport, Ill., to Bessie McKnight Kramer and Earl Goodman, she grew up in Ill. and attended South High in Minneapolis. She married her beloved husband of 55 years, Dale Halberg, Sr. at Gustavus Adolphus College in Minn. During the Korean War, Dale was recalled to duty so Joan and her first 3 children moved to New Britain, Conn.. near his family. Joan kept busy, modeling at a department store, and when her youngest started kindergarten, went to work for Rep. Daddario. She and Dale stayed active in Democratic politics, including JFK's campaign. She took a hiatus from work when their fourth child was born, then returned to work and college, at Wesleyan Univiversity in Middletown, Conn. For nearly 30 years she worked and studied in Wesleyan's Economics department. She and Dale raised their children in Farmington and Portland, Conn. In the early 1990's Joan and Dale retired to Surfside Beach then Murrells Inlet. Dale died in August 2004. Joan loved bridge, the NYT crossword puzzle, cross stitch (award winning), cooking and her friends. She was active in her Lutheran Church in Conn., a Girls Scout leader for girls at risk, volunteered at the MI library, and loved her rescue cat, Miss Finnegan. She was a strong person who demanded high standards, and much loved in her family. Joan is survived by children, Dale (Sylvia), Saluda, Va., Leslie Flood (the late Michael E. Flood), Portland, Conn., Dana Halberg (Larry Pless), Atlanta, and Jaye Egan (Tom), Palm City, Fla.; grandchildren, Tara. Ethan, Danielle, Laurin, Anna, David, Deane, Jessica, Katherine and Sam; great-grands, Kathleen and Edwin; her sister, Earlene of Rockford, Ill.; and a large extended family in Conn. The family is deeply grateful for the kindness, support and friendship of Joan's wonderful friends in Murrells Inlet, who were always there for her. - Michael Carl Brogan - JACKSONVILLE, FL - Michael Carl Brogan, 67, passed away September 7, 2010. Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, he considered Savannah, Georgia his home, where he grew up and later returned after living in California and Washington for a number of years. He resided in Jacksonville since 1989. He retired after 40 years as a civilian employee of the United States Navy, after proudly serving his country during the Viet Nam War on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Coral Sea. He will be remembered as a truly patriotic American, in addition to being a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He is predeceased by his parents, Jack and Freda Brogan of Savannah. Michael is survived by a loving family that includes his wife, Joan; children, Sean Michael Brogan (Melissa), Jennifer Louise Perdue (Scott), John Michael Drake (Rachel); brother, John Brogan; sister, Sheila Boulineau (Gerald); aunt, Catherine Lawrence; six grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. - Mr. Henry E. Frost - SAVANNAH - Mr. Henry E. Frost 51, passed away September 7, 2010 at Memorial Health University Medical Center following a brief illness. Born November 8, 1958 at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, he was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Royce Frost, M.D. and Pauline "Polly" Butler Frost. Henry graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1976. He attended East Georgia College, University of Georgia and Georgia Southern University. He founded and operated "Under the Rainbow" Historic Inn along with his partner. A deeply spiritual man, Henry was a member of the Unity Church of Savannah. He was a warm compassionate man and a friend to all who knew him. He was a devoted passionate advocate for the entire gay community of Savannah and Georgia. He was a past chairman of First City Network, one of the original founders of Savannah Gay Pride and a long time member and supporter of Georgia Equality Inc. He is survived by his life partner, Kevin Clark of Savannah, GA; two sisters: Laurie Frost of Darien, GA and Lucy Frost Moore of Nunez, GA; brother-in-law, David Moore; 3 nieces: Sierra Moore Turner of Swainsboro, GA, Lana Frost Moore of Nunez, GA and Shelly Furman Lee, one great-nephew, Ethan Lee, both of Rincon, GA. - William Albert Armstrong DOUGLASVILLE, GA-- Mr. William Albert Armstrong, 93, of Douglasville, GA, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at Wellstar Douglas Hospital. He was born August 9, 1917 in Atlanta, GA, the son of the late Mr. William Augustus Armstrong and the late Mrs. Alice Sweeney Armstrong. He was a devoted member of the Beulah Church of Christ. He retired from the cotton mill industry after 30 years of service. He worked at Bosch in Atlanta as an order puller. He was avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed dirt track racing. - Elizabeth (Betsy) McDavid Campbell NAPLES, FL-- Elizabeth (Betsy) McDavid Campbell, of Naples, FL, died Monday, September 6, 2010. She was born on April 14, 1917, in Greenville, SC. Betsy and her husband, Bob, lived in Gaffney, SC for many years. Betsy is survived by her two daughters, Jane Campbell Hinton and Schuyler Campbell; and four grandchildren, Schuyler Campbell, Robert Scholl, Anne Marie Reinhold, and Vincent Scholl. Betsy spent her life helping others, especially children. Betsy believed in helping young people teach each other values, attitudes and skills that would enable each of them to contribute in their community as envisioned by our Creator. Betsy grew up in Greenville, SC and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in 1938. That same year, she was married to Robert S. Campbell, Jr. Bob passed away in 2003. Betsy has received many awards for her years of service to various organizations. Betsy was an active leader in the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Gaffney, where she served in most available positions. She was the first president of the Friends of the Library in Gaffney. She was presented the Henry B. Richardson Award at York Place Episcopal Home for Children. From 1993 to 1995, she served as a member of the Board of Trustees at York Place. In 1998, Governor David Beasley presented her with the Order of the Palmetto. Limestone College presented Betsy with an Honorary Alumnus Award in 1990 and awarded her an Honorary Doctorate in Public Service in 1999. In December, 2000, Betsy received the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humanities from Clemson University. Furman University presented Betsy with an Honorary Doctor of Humanities Degree in April, 2002 in recognition of her tireless advocacy for disadvantaged children. For many years, Betsy worked one on one with developmentally impaired and emotionally disturbed children. She has supported many youth initiatives, including the Sprouting Wings Program at Clemson University and the South Carolina Botanical Gardens, helping children succeed through connecting with nature. She created the Campbell Young Leaders program to assist underserved children in achieving their potential. Through her devotion to children and her desire for teaching, she established the Betsy M. Campbell Learning Symposium for Teachers through Clemson University. She also contributed to the establishment of the Betsy Campbell Carriage House on the Clemson campus. A son of the late Henry Caughman and Lula Mae Epting Dreher, he grew up in New Brookland and graduated from its public schools. He graduated in 1942 from the University of South Carolina and entered the U.S. Air Force immediately as a private. He served overseas in the Pacific Theater during World War II and was discharged with the rank of captain in 1946. He served in the Air Force Reserve until his retirement as a lieutenant colonel.Mr. Dreher was elected to the S.C. House of Representatives in 1948. He was then elected as Clerk of Court and served his beloved Lexington County in that capacity for the next 12 years. In 1964, he was appointed by the late Governor Donald Russell to the S.C. Workers Compensation Commission, where he served for 26 years. He received the Order of the Palmetto in 1990, at which time it was noted that 'during his years of public service, he earned admiration and respect for his compassion and concern for the working people of this state and for the fairness of his decisions.' He was known as a man of strong convictions who was not afraid to take a stand.As a seventh-generation native of the Dutch Fork, he retired in 1990 to his home in Lexington, where he enjoyed researching Lexington County history and being active in church and civic activities.Mr. Dreher is survived by his children; Cathy Dreher Trzcinski and her husband, Richard, Bubba Dreher and his wife, Laine, and Margaret Dreher Taylor and her husband, Billy. - COLUMBIA - Timothy Conyers' journey began July 6, 1931, in Manning, South Carolina. He was the seventh child of 16 children born to the late Moise and Maria Conyers. He received his education at Manning Training School in Manning, South Carolina, and, soon after, enlisted in the United States Army.After returning from duty, he met Mary Harrison and migrated to Miami, Florida. They married and from this union four children were born and united with each of their children from previous relationships. Timothy earned a living through his passion in carpentry by repairing and constructing within the community and throughout the city, thus becoming well-known for his great talent and fiery disposition, earning the nicknames; 'swag' and 'left-hook' (smile).On August 30, 2010, at 10:00 p.m. at the age of 79, he succumbed to his battle with his illness when an angel of the Lord came to carry him home. - WEST COLUMBIA - Doris Rish Perry Davis died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lexington County, June 27, 1923, to the late George Wesley and Viola Spires Rish. She was a member of Springdale Baptist Church for over 40 years and an 'adopted' member of Fairlawn United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett Delanor Perry, by whom she had two daughters, and by her second husband, Myron Kenneth 'M.K' Davis, who had five children, three of them now deceased, Joanne Ray, Lance and Lee Davis. She was also preceded in death by seven siblings: brothers, Ervin, Tommy, Louie and Herman Rish; sisters, Melba Sturkie, Rosa Lee Luther and Lois Crosby. She is survived by daughters, Eileen Perry Fogle (John) of Columbia, SC, and Donna Perry Maddox (Roy) of Lookout Mountain, TN; stepsons, William K. Davis (Faye) of Lexington, SC, and Myron Davis (Martha) of Lake Stevens, WA, and grandchildren, Perry Maddox of Jinga, Uganda, and Shea Maddox of Chattanooga, TN, and many Davis descendants. Also surviving are sisters, Lettie Folk of Columbia, and Amy Moore of West Columbia, and many nieces and nephews. Doris will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She lived her life in service to her Creator and gave of her abundant love and kindness to all she encountered. Everyone that knew 'Miss Doris' was touched by her unwavering love of God and for her fellow man. A strong, courageous southern lady who loved to laugh, she personified faith, hope and charity. She smiled in the face of adversity and greeted each day with a joyful heart. For their excellent medical care, the family of Doris Davis offers its sincere appreciation and thanks to: Dr. Nowamagbe Omoigui, faithful Cardiologist and 'apple of Ms. Davis' eye', and his wonderful and most considerate Cardiovascular Care Group staff; Dr. Sara Shumacher, Nurse Sandra and excellent staff of Senior Primary Care; Palmetto Richland Heart Hospital Moultrie Suite Staff; Carolina Home Health and Sug Kaiser, RN; Gentiva Hospice and Pamela Long, RN. With deep appreciation for their companionship and care-giving, the family recognizes Jane Neilson, Audrey Corley, Robin Clark and Shelly Kennedy, the 'neighborhood girls' Hanny Theriot, Donna Ray, Susie Catalano and Susanne Cecere, and for always 'being there,' Jim and staff of Long's Pharmacy, Farrow Road. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010, at Springdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy McGill officiating. A private burial for the family will be held in Southland Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the church Fellowship Hall.
