- KENNY BOWERS Kenny Bowers, 73 year old Woodward resident, went to be with his Lord on Sunday morning, August 29, 2010 at the Woodward Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with brain cancer, during which he defied many odds. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward with the Reverend Jason Dirks officiating. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.
- GERTRUDE ALENE NIXON Gertrude Alene Nixon was born northwest of Leedey, Oklahoma, to Frank and Icie (Snell) Taylor on January 15, 1926, and was reunited with them in heaven on August 30, 2010 at the age of 84 after two years of declining health. She died in a hospital in Elk City with her husband and children close by. She grew up on their family farm and attended school and played basketball at Liberty Center. Most people knew her as “Alene”.

- Mary Hashisaki Gruel was born in Joliet, MT to Suyeji and Motomu Hashisaki on May 3, 1923. She died September 4, 2010 at Integris Baptist Medical Center following a brief illness. She graduated from Joliet High School at the onset of WW II and worked for the federal government in Washington, D.C. From there she went to New York City, where she worked at Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she knew Drs. Schick and Wasserman. From there she traveled to Japan as part of the occupation forces, and later returned to Joliet to care for her parents. She married Bob Gruel, also from Joliet, and after Bob's graduation from Montana State, they moved to Bartlesville, OK, where they lived and raised their two sons, Curtis and John. In 1982, after Bob's retirement, they moved to Edmond, OK, where they lived out the remainder of their lives. - Lucy Daniel went home to her Lord on August 29, 2010. She was born in Snyder, OK on January 5, 1920. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Carrie Magee; siblings: Gracie, Lois, Edith, Margaret Imogene; her husband, Willard; her son, Stanley; and her daughter, Wanda Jean. She is survived by her sisters: Johnnie Adams of Okla. City and Viola McCall of Eugene, OR; her daughter, Glenda of Phoenix, AZ; her grandchildren: Marilyn, Nancy, Susie, Kathy, Janice, Scott, Kimberly, Carrie, Eric, Phillip, and Randy; and, as she was so proud to say, 22 great- grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; also, many nieces, nephews and their families, including her nieces, Lynda Marr and Joan Pierce, who cared for her in the last years. - Wilma Gene (Jenkner) Armstrong Hamilton was born in Hamilton, Ohio, to William & Florence (Cramer) Jenkner on October 24, 1925. Wilma joined her Lord and Savior in heaven on September 4, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Warren Hamilton, in 2001; and her sister, Betty Roberts of Fairfield, Ohio, in 2004. She was married to Warren Armstrong in 1950, and he preceded her in death. She is survived by her two loving stepsons: Roger Hamilton of Santa Rosa, California; and Earl (Pat) Armstrong of Fort Worth, Texas; and a loving niece, Debra Jean (Ron) Renard of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also survived by many special friends too numerous to mention. Wilma graduated from West Chester High School and Butler County Business College in Ohio. She retired as a Personnel Assistant with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in October of 1986 after 25 years of service. She enjoyed traveling and went to Europe, China, Africa and Alaska. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place, with the ashes scattered at her country home, where she spent many happy hours working in her yard. Annabel moved to Bartlesville, OK with her family in 1926 when she was 13 years old. She graduated from College High School in Bartlesville in 1931. She attended her first year of college at a Girl's School in Mexico, MO and then transferred to Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, OK. She was a Home Economics major and received her degree in the field of Nutrition. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority.It was while she was a student at Oklahoma A&M that she met her future husband, James Arthur Beall. He was a Professor in the School of Agriculture and the teacher of her Meats class. They were married upon her graduation in 1936. They lived in Stillwater until 1945 when they bought a ranch east of Bartlesville. She then became a Rancher's wife and supported her husband's interest in raising cattle and breeding horses. The family moved back to Stillwater in 1954, then to Amarillo, TX and finally to a farm south of Broken Arrow in 1961, where Annabel had lived for the past 49 years. Annabel was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother Joseph Hubert Hess; and sister Lucile Hess Owen. She is survived by her five children including two daughters: Frankie Lou Hale and her husband Jerry of Bixby, OK; Jacquelyn Sue Sands and her husband Jeff of Louisville, KY; three sons: James Robert Beall and his wife Sandi of Jefferson, MD, Phillip Arthur Beall and his wife Betty of Edmond, OK and Charles Preston Beall and his wife Freda of Bixby; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Annabel always had a great love for children. Even as a young girl in Bartlesville, she would seek out neighboring children to play with and care for. Later, when her own children arrived, she was active in the Methodist Church Children's Sunday School Departments in Stillwater and Bartlesville. She was also involved in her children's school and scouting activities. After her husband's death in 1968 she returned to Oklahoma State University to take classes in Pre-School Education. She then taught music in private Pre-Schools. The children loved "Miss Annabel" as much as she loved them. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow and often served in the church Nursery. During this time she began to enjoy the opportunities of travel. With her sister Lucile or her sisters-in-law, Sadie Beall or Mildred Hess, or a variety of friends and family she visited much of the U.S. and many foreign countries. It was a joy to her to see so much of the world, and she always returned home with great enthusiasm to tell of her many experiences with people and places. Graveside service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 17 at New Home Cemetery in Nash, OK; memorial service and celebration of life: 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 18 at Bixby First United Methodist Church. She grew up in that farm home and made the four-mile walk to the one room school house for 1st-10th grade. She moved to town (Fredonia) for her junior/senior year of high school and received an award for perfect attendance and never being tardy for her entire 12 years of school.On August 22, 1937 Mabel Estella Kauth was married to Charles Benjamin Colaw in her family home. She and C.B. farmed, ranched and operated a retail oil distributing company until they answered the call to full-time vocational ministry. She joined C.B. as his partner in ministry beginning in 1946 serving in pastorates in Woodlawn, KS; Sharon Springs, KS; Oakley, KS; Blackwell, OK and then planted the First Wesleyan Church in Bartlesville in 1959. They served together in ministry as the District Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church for 34 years. This took them to Springfield, MO for 10 years until 1973 when the District office was moved to Bartlesville. They have remained in Bartlesville for the past 37 years. When Dr. Colaw was traveling, Mrs. Colaw made sure that her family had devotions and family altar time and Dr. Colaw considered his wife vital to his ministry.Mrs. Colaw loved to entertain and was a gracious host to innumerable district, college and church events in their home. She traveled extensively around the world with and without her husband, ministering to missionaries, pastors and their spouses while also serving as a mentor to many young pastors' wives. While living in Springfield, she was an election board official for 10 years and was also active in a women's bowling league. She was an Avon representative for many years. She made the best peppernuts (AKA dog biscuits) and instilled a love for them to four generations. She made wonderful pear honey and also made christening outfits for several of her grandchildren.Surviving Mrs. Colaw is her husband of 73 years, Dr. C.B. Colaw of Bartlesville, her children, Charles Colaw and wife June of Yukon, OK, Rene Colaw and wife Sara of Bartlesville, Max Colaw and wife Ruth Ann of Bartlesville, Stephen Colaw and wife Joyce of Bartlesville, Judy Hadsell and husband, Marion of Hopeton, OK, Joe Colaw and wife Dawn Marie of Bartlesville, 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Colaw's niece, Bernetta Hay and husband Ron of Bartlesville have been extremely faithful in their care and love of C.B. and Mabel who considered Bernetta and Ron as their own children. - An Oklahoma City man has been killed and six other people injured in a boating collision on Lake Eufaula. The Oklahoma Lake Patrol says 38-year-old Greg Scherff was dead on arrival at a Muskogee hospital following the accident. The cause of death has not been determined. Investigators say Scherff and the others were on a boat that was stopped in the lake when it was hit from behind by another boat just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday. September 7, 2010
