Bruce, 95, died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, at RiverWoods at Exeter, where he had resided for the last eight years.He was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Exeter, the son of the late James and Margaret (Gallant) Bruce, and was a lifelong resident of Exeter.Mr. Bruce was an accountant for Exeter & Hampton Electric Company and for Red Walsh at Mayflower Transportation. He also prepared people's income taxes for many years.He was a volunteer worker for the United States Army Draft Board and also worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.He was a communicant of St. Michael Church, Exeter.The widower of Wilamena (Waleryszak) Bruce, who died in 2004, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Donald R. and Buffy Bruce of Stratham and Jim J. and Michele Bruce of Ulna, Maine; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.WE REMEMBER: A "diehard" Republican, he was very active in town politics and served as supervisor of the checklist in Exeter for many years.A memorial service was celebrated Thursday in the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, with the Rev. - BRENTWOOD - William B. "Bill" Earle Jr., 85, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at the Rockingham County Nursing Home.He was born Nov. 20, 1924, in Providence, R.I., son of the late William B. Earle Sr. and Mary M. (Rosa) Earle.Bill grew up in Bristol, R.I. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy during World War II and served in the Pacific. He returned home after the war, and began work as a rigger for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He retired after 30-plus years of employment there.He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Daigneault Earle of Brentwood; two sons, Bill Earle of Portsmouth and David Earle of Winder, Ga.; four daughters, Sheila Erickson of Evanston, Wyo., Rosemary Cole of Athens, Tenn., Brenda Earle of Tellico Plains, Ga., and Tina Manteuffell of Rochester; and 12 grandchildren.Bill was predeceased by his first wife of 47 years, Charlene Earle.WE REMEMBER: Bill was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #1088 in Kingston, and a member of St. Anne's Church of Haynes City while living in Florida for 10 years. Most of his spare time was spent hunting and fishing. - NEWMARKET - Ingeborg Kiessel-Brandt, 87, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2010, at the Pines of Newmarket.She was born Oct. 16, 1922, in Hesse, Germany, the daughter of the late Karl Wilhelm Max and Juliane Anna Sophie (Koberg) Kiessel. She moved to Hampton Falls in 1980 and had resided in Newmarket for the past 14 years.She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1952 and spent many years in the Southwest, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree from New Mexico State University and a master's degree in library science from the Graduate School of the Texas Woman's University.She was employed as a serials librarian at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.She loved books, traveling, the outdoors and sailing.She was predeceased by one brother, Dr. Max L.G. Kiessel, and is survived by her niece, Jutta Kiessel Burckhardt, and her nephew, Marcus Kiessel, both of Germany.WE REMEMBER: She was an enthusiastic member of the Active Retirement Association, an outreach program of the University of New Hampshire. She served that organization as membership director, vice president and president. - NEWFIELD, Maine - Sieglinde "Linda" Jette, 68, of Newfield, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at home, after a long illness.She was born May 1, 1942, in Breitscheid, Germany, a daughter of Gustuv and Marie (Praas) Stiehl. She attended schools in Germany.She met Gerald L. Jette, who was stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Hahn Air Force Base in Hansrueck, and they were married Feb. 28, 1962. When they returned to the U.S., they lived in Greenland, N.H., and Eliot, Maine, before settling in Newfield in 1998.Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gerald L. Jette of Newfield; a daughter, Donna Barto of Muncy, Pa.; two sons, Alexander Jette and his wife, Stacy, of West Newfield, and Ronald Jette and his wife, Glenda, of Eliot; two sisters, Ellen Sekler and Edith Kautz, and a brother, Wolfgang Stiehl, all of Germany; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.She was predeceased by a son, Stephen Jette, in 1989.WE REMEMBER: Linda worked for more than 20 years as a waitress at Bos'n's Landing in York, Maine.She was a member of the Community of Faith Fellowship in Newfield and a member of the Ladies Fellowship of the West Newfield Congregational Church.An avid walker and hiker, she also enjoyed cooking, flower and vegetable gardening, and canning.SERVICES: Memorial services will be private. - STRATHAM - Fred A. Hutton Sr., 86, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at Exeter Hospital.He was born in Hampstead, the son of the late John and Emma (Clark) Hutton. He was the husband of Marion (Ordway) Hutton, who he married in 1944.A resident of Stratham for more than 63 years, Fred was a founding member of the Stratham Fire Department and served for many years in several capacities, including fire chief.He was also a founding member of the Seacoast Chief Fire Officers Mutual Aid District, and was employed for many years as a mechanic at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.He is survived by his wife, Marion (Ordway) Hutton of Stratham; two sons, Fred A. Hutton Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Stratham, and Richard C. Hutton of Boston; and several nieces and nephews.WE REMEMBER: A longtime member of the Stratham Fair Committee, he also served as a 4-H judge at the fair. He helped establish the Young Farmers Association and was a member of the Star in the East Lodge in Exeter. Williams, 90, of Stratham, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.He was born and educated in Craftsbury, Vt., the son of Leo West Williams and Alice (Pike) Williams. He graduated from Craftsbury Academy where he excelled in sports, especially baseball and basketball. He later passed on his skills by coaching Little League.He was predeceased by his wife, Priscilla L. Williams, who died in 2009 after 67 years of marriage.He is survived by his son, Wayne Williams of Portsmouth; three daughters, Marsha L. Williams of Stratham, Carol Dee and her husband, John, of Kailua, Hawaii, and Gail Toussaint and her husband, Reggie, of North Berwick, Maine; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his sister, Roberta Jardine and her husband, Walter, of Eliot, Maine; his brother, Harland Williams and his wife, Ann, of Charlestown; and several nieces and nephews.WE REMEMBER: He served with pride in the Army Air Corps (now known as the United States Air Force) during World War II, rising to become a P-40 and P-51 fighter pilot.Wendell continued his higher education graduating from the University of New Hampshire, where he majored in bacteriology. He was a member of the ATO fraternity.Following many years of dedicated service as a state health inspector, he retired from the state of New Hampshire.Wendell's love and devotion to his wife and his family were inspiring. God and family first, he was a man of conviction and character. He had a can-do spirit and a never give up approach to life. He was a treasured friend to all who had the good fortune to know him. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and gardening. He and Priscilla enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. In the declining year of his life, he was greatly comforted by his dog, Hershey, his cat, Kona, and the wonderful staff at Edgewood Centre.SERVICES: Calling hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Brewitt Funeral Home, 14 Pine St., Exeter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at the Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket. - RAYMOND — Myron W. Cate, 79, of Hay Springs, Nebraska died peacefully at home on August 20, 2010. Myron was born on February 23, 1931 in Manchester. He was a resident of Raymond, until he joined the United States Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in both the Navy and then the Air Force during the Korean War. Myron's patriotism and strong love of American Freedom was seen as he was known to even carry a copy of the Bill of Rights and the US Constitution in his pocket.

- Gordon E. Ellis CHICHESTER, NH Mr. Gordon E. Ellis, 78, of 235 Main Street, Chichester, passed away on Monday, July 21, 2003 at the Concord Hospital in Concord. He was born in Morgan, VT, on July 8, 1925 the son of Wilbur C.J. and Orpha (Rowe) Ellis. He lived in Island Pond, VT, and moved to Gorham, where he lived for many years. He was employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking. After his retirement, he moved to Chichester, where he has since resided. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II where he served in the 10th Mountain Division Ski Troops. He served in the National Guard in Newport, VT, and then served in the Korean War. He was married in the Congregational Church in Island Pond, VT. He was a member of the VFW of Island Pond, the American Legion in Island Pond and a member of the I.O.O.F. and was treasurer of the Lodge of Gorham. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was a devoted family man. Members of the family include his wife, June M. (Johnson) Ellis of Chichester; three sons, Arthur Gordon Ellis, Chichester, Randy Harland Ellis of Londonderry and Richard Adam Ellis of Conticook; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one brother, Charles; one sister Phyllis; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 26, at 1 p.m. at the Bryant Funeral Home, 1 Promenade Street, Gorham. Interment will be in the Mount Hayes Cemetery in Gorham. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chichester Rescue Squad, Main Street, Chichester, NH, 03258 in his memory.
- John C. Onofrio MILAN--Mr. John C. Onofrio, 61, of 63 Young Road, Milan, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin. He was born in Berlin, on March 29, 1942, the son of Carmeno A. and Irene (Saunders) Onofrio and was a lifelong resident of Milan. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Berlin. He loved the outdoors, woodworking, flying, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a long haul truck driver for many years prior to being employed by James River Corp. Crown Vantage and Pulp and Paper of America. Members of the family include one son, Greg Onofrio and companion Tracy Tuliper of Pittsford, VT; two daughters, April Poirier and husband Corey of Berlin, and Spring Jeki and husband Ronald of Stark; four grandchildren, Antonio John Onofrio, Triston Poirier, Aubree Poirier and Isaac Joki; his mother, Irene (Saunders) Onofrio of Milan; four sisters, Christina Corcoran and husband Mark of Milan, Ann Clyne of Ludlow, MA, Amelia Tilton and husband Chan of Groveton, and Jone Thurston and husband Ralph of Wells; one brother, Kenneth Onofrio and wife Linda of Kempner, TX; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 27, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Bryant Funeral Home, 180 Hillside Avenue, Berlin. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Milan. - Julienne F. Skiathitis Julienne F. Skiathitis, 74, of Manchester, died August 28, 2008, at the Elliot Hospital. Mrs. Skiathitis was born in Beauceville, P.Q., Canada, on Aug. 9, 1934, to Albert and Laurence (Jolicoeur) Thibodeau. She attended local schools in Canada and has been a resident here for most of her life. Prior to her marriage, she worked at M.K.M., and in 1958 she married Arthur A. Skiathitis and was co-owner/operator of the Temple Food Mart on Baker Street in South Manchester until 1993, when her husband retired. He died Jan. 8, 1997. Raising her family was her life. She was involved in everything with her children. Members of her family include three sons, Philip A. Skiathitis, Arthur A. Skiathitis and Mark A. Skiathitis of Manchester; four daughters, Monica H. Charpentier of Hooksett, Eileen L. Valliere of Goffstown, Alice L. Foster of Newport, Maine, and Sonia Statires of Bedford; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, Pierre Thibodeau of Maine and Jean-Marc Thibodeau of Connecticut; three sisters, Jackie Labrie of Goffstown, Florence Toulouse of Manchester, Pauline Thibodeau of Florida; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. - David W. Whalley Sr. BOW David W Whalley Sr, 67, of Bradford, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Cambridge, Mass., the son of the late George and Blanche (Bousquet) Whalley. Mr. Whalley was a resident in Bow for 30 years and a Bradford resident for the past nine years. He was a sales engineer in the electronics industry and had recently retired. Mr. Whalley was an avid hunter and fisherman, member of the Bow Mens Club, the Bow Athletic Club and St. Theresa Church. He loved being surrounded by his family and friends, and he also had an extreme fondness for his canine hunting companion, Baxter. He will always be remember for his uncanny sense of humor. - Robert Burns Davis Robert Burns Davis, 88, died peacefully on Aug. 28, 2008, at the Mid-State Medical Center in Meriden, Conn. He was born on May 18, 1920, to William Noble and Ethel Sulham Davis. After graduating from Milford High School and Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, he worked for General Electric in Schenectady, N.Y. He served in the Army during World War II until 1946. He retired from New England Telephone & Telegraph Company after 36 years of service. He was a life member of the American Legion Riccardi-Hartshorn Post No. 23 in Milford, a life member of Masonic Bible Lodge No. 27, F&AM of Goffstown, and a member of Masonic Island Pond Lodge No. 44, F&AM in Vermont. Mr. Davis was past commander of Amoskeag Power Squadron in Manchester, past district commander of the United States Power & Sail Squadron, and a member of Winooski Power & Sail Squadron in Burlington, Vt. He enjoyed sailing, gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing. Mr. Davis was always active in church and community, served on school boards in New Hampshire and was church treasurer in Westmore, Vt. Family members include his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Goodwin Davis; his daughter, Jane, and her husband, Ronald Goldberg, of Cheshire, Conn.; two sons, William Davis and his wife, Beverly, of Brownington, Vt., and Jeffrey Davis and his wife, Terri, of San Jose, Calif.; as well as grandchildren Paul Goldberg; Jim, Cameron and Ian Davis; and Bill, Andy and Michelle Davis. - Beverly A. Murray BEDFORD Beverly A. (French) Murray, 78, died Aug. 22, 2008, at Ridgewood Healthcare Center after a period of declining health. She was born in Manchester on July 10, 1930, to Benjamin and Ann (Finn) French. She graduated from St. Joseph High School for Girls. Mrs. Murray resided in Manchester most of her life, before moving to Bedford. She wintered in Englewood, Fla., for several years. She was an Avon representative for 51 years. In addition, she worked at MKM Company and retired from Scovill Industries. Mrs. Murray was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, whose family was the center of her life. She was predeceased by a brother, Robert French, and a sister, Dorothy Bishop. - Gertrude W. Hankins CONTOOCOOK Gertrude W. Hankins, 88, of The Meadows, died Sept. 1, 2008, at Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Associations Hospice House after a long illness. She was born Dec. 12, 1919, in East Concord, to Gilbert Astles and Nora (Bullock) Pendleton Astles. She was a 1938 Hopkinton High School graduate and a 1939 graduate of Concord Business College. She was a secretary her entire working life. During World War II, she worked in the Selective Service division of the War Department in Washington, D.C. Last winter, she was featured in the Concord Monitors My War series, which told of her life in Washington during the war. Returning to Contoocook after the war, she helped care for her invalid mother. On Dec. 7, 1945, she married Albert L. Hankins, former Contoocook postmaster. They settled in Contoocook, where they raised their three children. Mrs. Hankins worked for many years in Contoocook at FMC Corp., National Fiberglas, Aerotronics Associates and Crathern Engineering, retiring in 1981. She greatly enjoyed counted cross-stitch needlework, and her embroidery won numerous blue ribbons at the Hopkinton State Fair. Many friends and all her family treasure her framed pieces, all of which are exquisitely stitched. Due to her mothers fragile health, she learned to cook at a young age and became a superb cook. Her red velvet cake and German beans are family heirloom recipes. She was a long-time member of The Golden Group and enjoyed weekly luncheons at Slusser Senior Center. She loved music and was an accomplished pianist. Despite her struggles with limited mobility resulting from a 1988 auto accident, Mrs. Hankins possessed a positive outlook on life. When diagnosed with three types of cancer almost simultaneously, her positive nature helped gain her bonus years, for which her family is grateful. She was a 60-year member of the American Legions Womens Auxiliary and a former member of the Elks Club Emblem Club. Mrs. Hawkins will be remembered for her gentle nature, her many friendships, her devotion to family and the sweetest of smiles. Her philosophy to others was: place your family first, praise them often and tell them every day you love them. She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Albert L. Hankins; brothers Stuart Astles, Thomas Astles, E. Bertram Astles, George Pendleton and Richmond Pendleton, and sisters Ailene Robinson and Eva Turner. The family includes her daughter, Susan W. Tullis and her husband, David, of Henniker; two sons, Wayne G. Hankins and his wife, Reiko, of Castro Valley, Calif., and Dennis A. Hankins of Bradford; eight grandchildren, Leah Mumford of Contoocook, James Andrews of Weymouth, Mass., Taein, Tokuin, Wonin and Jennie Hankins of Castro Valley, Calif., and Drew and Patrick Hankins of Bradford; four great-grandchildren, Alden and Kelsey Mumford of Contoocook, and Caden and Damon Andrews of Weymouth, Mass.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Thursday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Holt- Woodbury Funeral Home, 3 Hall Ave. in Henniker. She was raised in Braintree, Mass. She lived in Norwood, Mass., for many years, where she was a member and deaconess of the First Congregational Church of Norwood. She lived in Barnstead for 17 years and was active in the American Legion Post Auxiliary prior to moving to Epsom. Family members include her husband of 65 years, Clarence D.
