- Our dear Paul Jr. departed his earthly bonds to join his Savior on Aug. 27, 2010, after losing his battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul A. Brake Sr., and his grandmother, Cleo F. Grimes. He was a good friend to many and leaves behind the love of his life, Charlene Coley; his mother, May H. Brake; his brothers, Larry W. Brake, and John E. Brake and wife Lisa J. Brake; aunt, Fay Hessenius; grandpa, Henry Grimes; and cousins, Bill and Brett Hessenius.He was an excellent electrician, loved to hunt with his pride and joy, Sweet; work in his garden; be with his friends and faithful companions, Red and Lucy. - Connie Morris Brassard, age 83, passed away Aug. 25, 2010, peacefully at her home in Navarre, Fla., surrounded by those she loved. All who know Connie will long remember her warm smile, sincere kindness, tender heart, and she will be missed by many. She was one of six children born to Mary and David T. Morris. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her loving husband of 64 years, Harry; her son, Alan; her brothers, Stanley and Ivor; and her sister, Mae Morris. She is survived by her sons, Larry, Gary and wife Tammy, and Mark and wife Tracy; her sisters, Peggy Stepko and Winnie Bright; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. Connie was a devout Catholic and proud member of St. Monica Catholic Church for over 52 years and St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Navarre for five years. She was involved in many activities and organizations at the church, including being a Eucharistic minister. Connie lived her faith by visiting nursing homes, correctional institutions, and home-bound parishioners, as well as volunteering her time at St. Vincent Hospital. Connie was a loving, caring, compassionate mother who strived to raise her sons by example. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Sept. 1, at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 N. Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46228. A Mass of Christian burial will follow in the church with Father Clem Davis officiating. Following the service, burial will take place at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis. - David Leon Blackburn of Shalimar, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center.Born in Kentucky, he later moved to the Fort Walton Beach area in 1960. David was an employee in the food service industry and a longtime employee of both the Mess Hall at Eglin Air Force Base and later the Officer's Club. He loved fishing, walking and bicycling.David is survived by one brother, John T. Blackburn; three nephews, James Brent Blackburn and John S. Blackburn of Crestview, Fla., and Eric Blackburn of Kentucky; and three nieces, Brenda L. Urich and Venisa L. - Harry J. Brassard passed away peacefully Aug. 20, 2010, at the age of 87 years.He graduated from Western Michigan Technical College. He was a printer by trade and was general foreman at Rogers Typesetting of Indianapolis. Harry was in the Air Force during World War II and was a retired major in the Air Force Reserves.He was a proud and devout member of St. Monica Catholic Church of Indianapolis for 52 years and St. Sylvester Catholic Church in Navarre, Fla., for five years. Navy, having served in the Korean Conflict. - It is with profound sadness that we mark the passing of Michael Harry D'Autilia on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010. He passed away at MD Anderson in Houston.Mike was born in East Orange, N.J., on July 7, 1935. He was predeceased by his parents, Justine and Salvatore D'Autilia; and his brother, Robert D'Autilia. Mike is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ella Grace D'Autilia; their daughter, Maria D. Moskey, her husband Daniel Moskey; and grandchildren, Jessica Grace Moskey and Kevin Michael Moskey. He is also survived by his sister, Marie D. Billings, her husband Jed Billings, their children, Tom Billings, Deena and Justin Ross, Laurie and Jason Schoonover; and their grandchildren, Cora, Trevor and Sam Michael Schoonover. Mike retired from General Electric after 35 years working as a mechanical engineer and marketing for Electric Utility Sales. Mike was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach since 1995. He served on the Walton Country Planning Commission, Dune Lake Advisory Board and the Zoning Board of Adjustments. He was a member of the Emerald Coast Woodturners, Cultural Arts Association and Friends of Eden. Mike also played the mountain dulcimer and before his illness played at nursing homes, libraries and churches in the area. He first saw the Panhandle and this area in 1960 and thought it was so beautiful. At the time, he never realized he would live here in his retirement years. He cherished his friends and the care they offered during his illness. The funeral service will be held on Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Rita Catholic Church, 137 Moll Drive, Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. Interment to follow at Gulf Cemetery, 1466 South County Highway 393. - Dr. James David Butler, our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away surrounded by his loving family on Aug. 30, 2010.He was born on Feb. 21, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to James J. and Mary C. Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, John Stanley Butler. He leaves behind his childhood sweetheart and wife of 57 years, Patricia (Pat) Butler; five children, Jennifer Garrison, David (Beth) Butler, Carolyn (George) Lloyd, Janice (Anthony) Raimo and Barbara (John) Glaize; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sisters, Virginia Bishop and Carolyn Jordan.Religion had always been a positive force in his life and although he was raised Roman Catholic and continued to attend and participate in the Catholic Mass at Hurlburt Air Force Base Chapel, his faith journey led him to join the Anglican Church in the early 1980s.He retired from the Air Force after 24 years of distinguished service, having attained the rank of chief master sergeant. Among the many honors and medals, he received the Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Force Commendation Medals and the Bronze Star Medal.Dr. Butler, or "Dr. B" as he was affectionately known by all his sons-in-law, students and colleagues, held four academic degrees in history/political science. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Maryland, Master's Degree from the University of York in York, England, and his Ph.D from Columbia Pacific University.For many years he taught at the Saint Leo and Troy State University centers at Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field.For the past 30 years Dr. Butler was a highly respected civil service employee with the 46th Test Wing Seek Eagle office at Eglin AFB. As a keen observer of those about him and an exceptional storyteller, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of writing a novel entitled "The Water Ball," which is a story of faith and enduring love that is in the process of being published. Although he did not live to see the publication of his book it will be one of many wonderful legacies which his family and friends will cherish.The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 17 S.E. - Gussie Davis, age 86, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010.She was born on Feb. 4, 1924, in Walton County, Fla., to John and Lou Legar Burch. Mrs. Davis was a lifelong resident of Walton County. She was Baptist by faith. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 225, Gaskin, Fla., having served as Worthy Matron, and was dedicated to the Order of Eastern Star for over 60 years. She worked as a school bus driver for 12 years before retiring. She also loved to play bingo.Mrs. Davis was preceded by her parents; her husband, William Joe Davis; one son, Charles Joseph Davis; six brothers' and two sisters.Mrs. Davis is survived by her son, William Marvin Davis of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; one granddaughter, Jennifer S. - Richard Preston Geron Jr., passed away Friday, Aug. 27, 2010.He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Preston Geron and Alice Hairston Geron. He is survived by his niece, Sallie Shea Shearin of Bartlett, Tenn.; and nephews, John Geron Shea of Hoover, Ala., and William Peter Shea IV of Lakeland, Tenn.Dick was retired from the Air Force, where he flew a number of prop and jet aircraft, both fighters and transport. He had 5,520 flying hours which included 529 combat missions in Vietnam. Among his awards are the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross, Bronze Star and Air Medal with 26 oak leaf clusters. He received the Ethiopian Gold Medallion of the Emperor after serving as the Chief Pilot, Imperial Ethiopian Air Force and Military Advisor to his good friend, Emperor Haile Selassie.He also served as the senior U.S. liaison officer to the Australian and New Zealand Military Forces, Vietnam.Dick was a former president of the Air Commando Association and is a member of the Air Commando Hall of Fame. He annually manned the bar at the ACA reunions, and often was heard saying, "I can't remember his name but I can tell you what he drinks."The quintessential Southern Gentleman and a raconteur without equal, Dick could spend hours regaling his audience with the most improbable and marvelous tales, ending each one with his signature, "True story." And they were.He was an active member of Destin United Methodist Church; a memorial service will be held on Monday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Lane Butts officiating. - Mildred Grace Fletcher Byrge Decker, age 77, of Chula, Ga., died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 1, at Eureka Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Jamey Tucker and Elder Jeff Harris will officiate, with burial to follow in Eureka Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Hugh Byrge, and her second husband, Wilbur E. Decker. She was a homemaker and a member of Eureka Primitive Baptist Church. She graduated from Irwinville High School and loved Southern Gospel Music. - Clayton E. Bryan Clayton E. Bryan, 66, died Thursday, September 2, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Nikki Byran. Clayton was born and raised in Laurel Hill and moved to Tallahassee to attend FSU. He would later graduate from FSU and retire from the State of Florida, Department of Agriculture where he worked for over 30 years. Clayton also served in the United States Navy and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where he was Chaplain of the Gideons. He was an avid saltwater fisherman and enjoyed boating and traveling. Other survivors include one daughter, Traci Burke (Brancen) of Tallahassee; one sister, Edna Gordon(Brady) of Crestview; two brothers, Bob Bryan(Jo) of Seminole; and Bill Bryan (Diane) of Laurel Hill; one grandchild, Lacy Burke; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mamie Lee Bryan; one brother, LeRoy Bryan; and one sister, Mildred Fulton. - Edward W. Anthony Edward W. Anthony, 90, peacefully passed away at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee, Florida on September 2, 2010. Edward Anthony was born in Cleveland Ohio, on January 9, 1920, the youngest of five siblings, to John Will and Lucy Yarbro Anthony. He grew up during the Great Depression in Nashville, TN and moved to Cincinnati, OH when he was 16. He married Mary Jane Houston on March 10, 1941, and on April 15, 1941, he was drafted into the US Army as a private first class. He completed basic training at Fort Huachuca in Arizona and became a member of the prestigious Buffalo Soldiers who were "Ready, Willing, and Able" to serve. He completed military assignments during the next four years, seven months and 15 days, including WWII infantry tours in Italy. He received an honorable discharge as a staff sergeant on October 31, 1945. After completion of his military service, he was employed by Kahn's Meat Packing Company in Cincinnati until his retirement, with 40 years of service. After retirement he became an avid golf player and enjoyed playing cards with his friends. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. In 2007 Edward Anthony moved to Tallahassee, Florida to live with his son Edward F. Anthony and his family. Edward W. was preceded in death by his son, Michael Anthony, who passed away in 1985; his wife Mary Jane Anthony, who passed away in 1992; and his special friend, Lucille Yarborough, who passed away in 2007. Left cherishing his memory are: one son, Edward F. Anthony (Brenda) of Tallahassee, FL; daughter-in-law, Jean Anthony, of Cincinnati, OH; niece, Barbara Clark, of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Michanda A. (Cajardo) Lindsey, of Denver, CO and Edward W. (Jennifer) Anthony, of San Jose, CA; great grandchildren, Seven, Seth, Edward J, Saniyah; Lucille Yarborough's family, Alfred E. Ramsey (Brenda) and René R. Yarborough of Chicago, IL, Wane G. Yarborough (Taryn) and Cheryl J. Yarborough of Cincinnati, OH and Anita L. Costello (Chris) of Boston, MA; and a host of friends. - Robert Reid Churchill Robert Reid Churchill, 83, of Tallahassee, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Born in Chicago, Ill., in 1926, he moved with his family to Winter Park, Florida at age five. He graduated from Winter Park High School and joined the U.S. Army as WWII was ending. He served two years in the Army of Occupation. He graduated from the University of Florida with a Civil Engineering degree. He began work with the State Road Department and worked in Gainesville and Lake City before moving to Tallahassee. When he retired in 1983 from the Department of Transportation he was the Assistant State Highway Engineer - supervising all highway and bridge design as well as directing the right of way department and traffic operations. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Bevis Funeral Home is handling arrangements. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Hampton Churchill of Tallahassee. Other survivors include a daughter, Marcia C. Arthur (Brett) of Knoxville, Tennessee; a son, Reid H. Churchill, of Tallahassee; aa sister, Dorothy C. - HELEN "TONI"HYLTON BAGLEY, 89Parliamentarian LAKELAND - Longtime Lakeland community leader Helen "Toni" Hylton Bagley passed away September 4, 2010 at home in Southland Suites Assisted living facility from a brief bout with cancer. Born in Roanoke, VA April 4, 1921, she moved to Lakeland with husband Dan Bagley, Jr. in 1948. Together they started Bagley Specialty Advertising in 1952. She was the first woman to qualify to run for Lakeland City Commission in 1949. Besides working in the family business and being a wife and mother, she was involved in many community activities. These included serving as President and Life Member of the Heart of Florida Girl Scout Council and President of the Women's Club of Lakeland, president of Cleveland Court PTA, Southwest Junior High School PTA, and membership roles in many other local organizations. Mrs. Bagley's interest in helping organizations run more effectively lead to her achieve the designation of Professional Registered Parliamentarian. She was a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians and a certified professional parliamentarian. She was also a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians, and the Academy of Parliamentary Procedure and Law, with the earned classification of Parliamentary Specialist. She served as parliamentarian for the National League of American Pen Women and many years as the National Parliamentarian for the National Association of Court Reporters. She is the author of a book on parliamentary procedure simplified called, Know What To Do ad How to Do It. She and her late husband Dan Bagley, Jr. started Bagley Specialty Advertising in 1952, and built Executive Plaza in 1968. She was a member of the Homebuilders Class at the First United Methodist Church for over a half century, and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She is survived by her son Dan Bagley III,(Ann) daughter Linda Bagley Wiggs, (Howard) sister Oneida Lawrence of Snohomish, WA, and grandchildren Andrew Bagley, Jakob Hero and Kimber Wiggs and step grandsons Johnny Wiggs, Chris Wiggs, and S.
