- Philip Eichenberger August 28th, 2010 Aug. 8, 1950 — Aug. 11, 2010 Philip went home to be with his beloved Lord on August 11 following a tragic workshop accident at home. Phil lived his life with great zest, love, service to others, thoughtfulness, humor, honesty, and integrity. His goal was to live each day in obedience to God. Phil was an amazing son, brother, friend, father, and husband. Others always came first. He loved and cherished his wife, his children, and his extended family, and always made sure they — and everyone else — knew that. Phil was a brilliant man and a deep thinker, and enjoyed discussions and readings that challenged him. He was loved and respected by all who knew him. His quick wit, his twinkling eye, his quirky ways, and his offbeat humor brought joy and laughter to all. Phil loved challenges. He was a private pilot, earning his float plane, commercial, and multi-engine ratings. Phil could ride any horse, anywhere; even the most challenging horses gentled at his touch. Skydiving allowed him to feel like he could fly, and he loved jumping out of planes and free falling for as long as possible. Bungee jumping, hang gliding, snow and water skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, off-road skateboarding, scuba diving, sailing, hunting — Phil loved them all. Phil was born in Portland, Ore., and soon after embarked on the first of many of his travels around the U.S. and world. His parents were missionaries with Wycliffe Bible Translators, and he accompanied them to Ecuador and then to Yarinacocha, Peru, in the Amazon jungle, where Phil spent most of his childhood. He returned to the U.S. to attend his last year of high school in Lexington, Ky. Phil served in the U.S. Navy, Patrol Squadron Four, NAS Barbers Point, Hawaii, and in the Naval Reserve. He chose to make going to sea his career, and graduated from the California Maritime Academy, Vallejo, Calif., in 1978 with a B.S. degree in Nautical Industrial Technology and his third mate’s license. Phil sailed with and worked for Exxon Shipping Co./SeaRiver for 31 years, ultimately earning his Master’s license. He also served in many shoreside positions. Phil spent many years in Valdez, Alaska, and in Angola, Africa. He retired in September 2009 and thoroughly enjoyed having the time to spend with family and friends, go horseback riding and “horse camping”, work around the “ranch”, work on a variety of projects, kayak, travel, dabble in art and music, and simply enjoy life. Phil leaves behind his wife of 33 years, Adrienne; his daughter, Christy, and her partner, Eric; and his son, Jamie, and his wife, Julia; brother and sister-in-law, Jay and Debbie Leach, and nephew Jayson Leach. Phil was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Eichenberger; his father, Ralph W. Eichenberger; and his brother, Mark Eichenberger. A memorial service will be held Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1600 Union Ave., Fairfield, Calif. This will be followed by a reception at 4375 Green Valley Road, Fairfield, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in Phil’s name to one of the following: JAARS, Attention: Maritime Safety Services, Project S5645, P.O. Box 248, Waxhaw, NC 28173, or Heather House, 724 Ohio Street, Fairfield, CA 94533. Arrangements under the direction of Fairfield Funeral Home, 425-1041.

- DEBBORAH A. LAMOUNTAIN Feb. 19, 1965 - Aug. 25, 2010 Debborah LaMountain, 45, passed away of natural causes in the early morning hours of August 25 in her El Centro home. Born February 19, 1965 in Los Angeles, she moved to the Imperial Valley as a child with her family. She was educated in local schools and worked as a paralegal/office manager for The Law Offices of Robert A. Espinosa, attorneys at law, in El Centro. Debborah is survived by her daughter, Mariah LaMountain; brothers, Ron and James Zielinsky; sisters, Rosie Patte and Sheila LaMountain. Debborah had many friends in the Valley and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 25, the Imperial County Legal Secretaries Association and President of her Condominium Association. Debborah loved flowers, cooking, music, traveling, being around her friends and generally joking around. Debborah had three loves in life. Debborah's undying love was first and foremost for her daughter Mariah; second, a candy called "Peeps", which she had a daily allowance doled out to her of one per day from co-employees; and third, she loved her job and being in the courtroom. She always talked about her job and never left it behind. She loved the fact that she could put her knowledge to work for her clients whom she always considered her "friends". She was ever helpful with anyone in need, always to the exclusion of herself. The outpouring of love and support for her beloved daughter, Mariah, from all her friends and acquaintances is something we are all sure she is smiling above and very thankful for. Ms. LaMountain was preceded in death by her parents. She will be remembered by family and friends during a memorial event that has been scheduled for Saturday, September 4 at the American Legion in El Centro, from 12 to 3 p.m.
